You, Only, Inhabit My Years
2025 - Video | Color, sound.
11 min 14 sec

Hussein Nassereddine stages a haunting meditation on time’s closure and the impossibility of metaphor. The video unfolds in a sealed space—an interior detached from the exterior world—where a singer, caught in a loop of repetition, sings a phrase that turns from poetic invocation to spectral entrapment.

“You, only inhabit my years.” The words, stripped of their figurative breath, become fate. The singer, confined within a time-locked chamber, enacts a ritual of endless return—where song ceases to be a gesture of flight and becomes instead a sentence, a recursive passage with no exit.

As the voice lingers in space, looping like an echo with no point of origin, the boundaries between lament and incantation, past and present, dissolve. The singer is both witness and captive, performer and apparition—marking time’s passage while being consumed by its weight. The impossibility of metaphor unfolds here as an existential condition: language, once a vehicle for longing, becomes the architecture of entrapment.

In this nightmare of song, Nassereddine confronts the limits of utterance itself—where the voice does not transcend but instead folds inward, sealing itself within the walls of its own invocation.
